Learning through precedents
This semester’s focus was learning from vernacular and modern systems of construction and methods of enclosure specific to a certain region and adapting them to a new set of conditions. The final architecture being a modern kindergarten responsive to its surroundings.
The Kindergarten’s site is Adalaj, India, the home of the stepped well. The structure is inspired by a modular system of temporary, prefabricated construction used in areas that are also subject to monsoon weather. The kindergarten incorporates natural elements into its architecture, sunlight, water, and the ground, to provide a playful and stimulating learning environment.
